Wahabism & Sufism

Militant vs Non-violent Interpretation of Islam

Jamshed Iqbal

[blue]Wahabism, as an approach, mindset and lifestyle, has mutually supportive relation with illicit or corrupting power. Power serves it and, in return, it serves the power. In this way it is far older than its assumed father—Abdul Wahab Najdi.

When we try to know the world or Supreme Reality before knowing yourself, you would start hating others to love what is same. Therefore, Wahabism is not exclusively Islamic phenomenon. Those who have gone through Micheal Dibdin’s novel, Dead Lagoon, or have been wakeful watchmen over their ego-centers (raqeeb in Quranic terms) know well that “when you hate what you are not to love what you are”—you are, to far extent, exclusivists, or Wahabi in popular parlance.

In this way, universal Wahabism is product of commonsense or rock-logic, in other words. For, our common sense logic tells us that, “There can be no true friends without true enemies”. So, common rationality hunts or manufactures enemies to hate for facilitating and camouflaging the basest self-love under lofty and self-assumed divine ideals.

Our commonsense based families, societies and states are, in fact, factories to produce enemies. Therefore, every state in the world, based on enemy image, is a kind of Wahabi state and Yazid is the arch-devil in its service—Hussain (May Allah be pleased with him!), on the other hand, is an armless and harmless arch-angel—a living symbol of non-violent resistance.

Sufism or the non-violent interpretation of Islam on the contrary, is product of uncommon-sense. The enemy is within! The evil is within! Know thyself before knowing the world! If you tried to know others before knowing yourself; you would make a hell of heaven and heaven of hell!

Quran clearly states, “Know thyself, know thy Allah”. Self is the one big thing. The time you know it; you know all. On the other you know many things without knowing one big thing and you know nothing. Sufis, in the light of Quran, know themselves and know all. Wahabis or Zakir Naiks draw on a wide range of books and for them the world or truth cannot be boiled to a single idea and they miss all. For missing self, in the light of Quran, is missing Supreme Reality and missing Supreme Reality is missing all.

Why knowing one-self is more important than knowing all? The answer is simple. The phenomenal or external world is shadow (not in literal but metaphorical sense) of internal or noumenal world. In other words, “we see though ourselves”. For seeing the things clearly we must wipe our goggles. If our specs were transparent and stainless we could clearly see that, “we are humanity—we are life—life is sacred—everything is living—everything is sacred”.

By knowing ourselves and our Allah, the enemies disappear. The darkest fire of hatred extinguishes. We become an ocean—overflowing with nectar of immortality and love. But we are afraid of it!

We are afraid of love for love is a difficult realization. Love is slaughter for all ego-centers. Love demands dethroning ourselves from the center of our universe and placing “other” on the throne to make same. Love demands seeing the existence and all forms of life through the eyes of lover.

What would happen if we really love Mohammad (pbuh)? We would start seeing from his point of reference! What was his standpoint? Love!

Love is the divine point of reference and, in its essence; it is no point of reference at all. Because Allah, or Supreme Reality, is omnipresent and, it follows, is at once available on trillions of trillions or all possible points of references. Allah is not (nauzu billah) prisoner of singular or myopic point of reference.

It is hatred, commonsense or logic that entails the imprisonment of singular or exclusive point of reference. Love appears to be illogical for it drives us away from our shared blindness! And we love blindness for we are led by arch-blinds! And we are blind for we don’t know ourselves and try to know the world!

As universal phenomena, Wahabism has always waged war against love! To Wahabis, there is nothing more profane and blasphemous than love! Wahabis read Quran and its preamble before every surah—in the name of Allah the beneficent the most merciful—and they are neither beneficent nor merciful. Why? For their goggles are stained with blood of rage and hatred! So, whatever comes up are the cries of their badly injured egos!

They cannot understand Sufis’ metaphor of intimate love between human soul and Soul of the Souls (Allah) in Sufi literature and their hatred misinterprets it as blasphemous! They could not bow before the Will of the Wills (Allah) and, to deceive themselves, make gods of their own stuck-up selves. They bow down in slaughterhouse of false ego (masjid) and come out with their egos nourished. What an irony!

Theirs’ is a world where everything has been turned topsy-turvy by nafs (false ego). In their holier than thou kind of world you would see an ignoble “form” of every noble ideal or spirit.

They think that Islam is a question of knowing and rotting books. But, in fact, Islam and every rightly guided religion is a question of being! They cry that Islam is a way of talking but, in fact, it is a way of walking! They think that Islam is a divine excuse to hate others on sacred grounds. But, in reality, Islam teaches exactly what Mohammad (pbuh) did with a women who used to throw refuse on him. Islam teaches what Mohammad (pbuh) did with people of Taif. Because Islam or any true religion is the morality or lifestyle touched by the noblest emotion of love and compassion.

Who are recipients of the universal message of Islam? Sufis or those who believe only in militant piety? Who practice Islam? Those who have rotted books or those who dethroned their selves to make room for others? How many books were mugged up by Mohammad (pbuh)? Rotting books, especially in current info-tech era, is far—far easier than loving others! Locking verses and chapters in one’s memory is far easier than dethroning one’s self from the center of one’s universe and knowing one’s true self through stainless vision of soul! What abut teaching that art? Isn’t it even harder than making show of one’s memory?

I have tried to make clear that Wahabism takes birth with the painful awareness of the “other” and touches its heights when the plague of otherness becomes violently exclusive. When everything is washed but I, MY, ME! When there remains no room for thought, beauty, peace, harmony, love and justice—Wahabism cuddles up to rust and wear away the remaining traces of love.

However, I would once again repeat, that Wahabism is not altogether Islamic phenomenon. It is not a sect. It is a degenerative mindset. There are Wahabis in religions, politics, and even sciences in every part of the globe. But they are least in art. For art is intensified aesthetics or aesthetics intensified. And, therefore, Sufis or mystics were great artists as well. Loves sustains and creates but hatred bulldozes and demolishes! Quran says that Allah is sustainer, beautiful and loves beauty! So, only those who are blessed or are striving to cultivate beauty, harmony, peace and love could win the blessings of Allah. Rests have only words…but love is silent—heavens don’t speak!

Shirk and Biddah accusations:Answers from Sahih Hadith/Hadees

14 Aug

Bismillah Hir Rahman Nir Raheem
Allahumma Salle ‘Ala Syedina Muhammadin Wa ‘Ala Aalihi Syedina Muhammadin Wa Barik Wa Sallim.

Topic :  Shirk Shirk Shirk Fitna by Misguided people in the ummah – (See Bukhari & Muslim )

Recap of  Important Points during the Ziyarah Mubarak of Martyrs of Uhuds from  Haidth e Bukhari Shareef and Muslim Shareef.

Point No. 1.
“ There will be No Shirk in My ummah I fear only you will fell in duniya “, these are words of beloved Prophet Hazrat Syedina Muhammadar-rasool Allah ( Sal-lal-lahu alaihi wa sallam ) given in the Kutbah Mubarak after the ziyarat of martyrs of Uhud.

Point No.2
Also note there was pulpit ( Mimber ) which was carried and there was speech biyan given by Huzoor e kareem ( Sal-lal-lahu alaihi wa sallam ) and many Sahaba-e-Ikhram Rizwan allahi thaalah alaiheem ajmaeens were present in this mubarak occasion.

Point No.3
From these hadiths mubaraks of muslim shareef and bukhari Shareef it is clear that the urs e shareef of awliyas of the ummah which is also celebrated every year and biyans kept in the urs e shareef and people gathering etc is the sunnah of  beloved prophet Hazrat Syedina Muhammadur Rasool Allah ( Sal-lal-lahu alaihi wa sallam ) and sahabas.
Also point to be noted is that the mazar e shareefs of  martyrs were visited every year on the particular day of martyrdom. Thus Urs e shareef of awliyas is the sunnah. Lastly Huzoor e kareem Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam also

Point No.4
The Prophet went out and offered the funeral prayer for the martyrs of the (battle of) Uhud and then ascended the pulpit and said, “I am your predecessor and I am a witness against you. By Allah, I am now looking at my Tank-lake (Al-Kauthar) and I have been given the keys of the treasures of the earth (or the keys of the earth).

Now the Question arises here and Important Conclusion :
When beloved prophet hazrat syedina muhammadur rasool allah ( sal-lal-lahu alaihi wa sallam ) had announced and declared that there will be no shirk in my ummah and I fear only my ummah may fall in duniya. Is it right that now in the ummah muslims are blaming other muslims brothers as shirk doers. From here we can conclude that these people who are blaming other people as shirk doers are going agains the declaration and the wordings of the beloved prophet hazrat Syedina Muhammadur Rasool Allah ( Sal-lal-lahu alaihi wa sallam ). It is a gravesin and haram to patch any muslim as shirk doer from these hadith e mubaraks of Kutbas of Uhud.

Below are the hadith e shareefs Quotations from Sahih Muslims and Sahih Bukhari Shareef.

Narrated ‘Uqba bin ‘Amir:
The Prophet went out and offered the funeral prayer for the martyrs of the (battle of) Uhud and then ascended the pulpit and said, “I am your predecessor and I am a witness against you. By Allah, I am now looking at my Tank-lake (Al-Kauthar) and I have been given the keys of the treasures of the earth (or the keys of the earth). By Allah! I am not afraid that after me you will worship others besides Allah, but I am afraid that you will start competing for (the pleasures of) this world.”

(Bukhari :: Book 8 :: Volume 76 :: Hadith 434 )

Now a days People call respecting graves as worship while Prophet صلی اللہ علیھ وآلھ وسلم had clearly stated that He صلی اللہ علیھ وآلھ وسلم has no fear of Shirk from this ummah:

This hadith is very important, Prophet صلی اللہ علیھ وآلھ وسلم knew that some fitna creator will

come in this ummah and they will declare visiting respecting Graves and Shrines as

worship and shirk, that is why Prophet صلی اللہ علیھ وآلھ وسلم while standing near graves and

Shrines of Shuhada-e-Uhad made it clear that He صلی اللہ علیھ وآلھ وسلم has no fear of shirk

from this Ummah.

Zakir Naik is not an Islamic Scholar ;Islamic Research Foundation IRF

31 Jul zakir_naik

By:  Abu Arif Al Alawi

Alhamdulillah!  Finally, Ahle Sunnat Wa Zamaat’s stance on Dr. Zakir Naik that  he is a specialist on comparative religion and not on Islamic Theology is endorsed by Dr. Zakir Naik’s IRF itself officially. Hence, Dr. Naik’s views on “Fiqh and Massail” carry no weight and  one should not ask him questions on these issues. In a discussion with me, Dr. Zakir Naik’s IRF admits that “Fiqh and Massail” are not their speciality; their speciality is “comparative religion” . This humble servant   of Islam sent 16 questions to Dr. Zakir Naik and his IRF on Islamic Theology at  zakir @irf.net and questions@irf.net. On behalf of Dr. Zakir Naik and IRF, Dr. SHUAIB SAYYED  [Manager Research, Islam and Comparative Religion, IRF]  answered . He totally avoided those 16 questions on Islamic Theology arguing that your questions are on Fiqh and Masaail” and not on Comparative Religion. Dr. SHUAIB SAYYED  [Manager Research, Islam and Comparative Religion, IRF]  answers On behalf of Dr. Zakir Naik and IRF :
 zakir_naik

Jazakallah for your questions. While we certainly answer  questions on Islam and Comparative Religion which are  related to Da’wah activities (Conveying the message of Islam to non-Muslims), we do not entertain queries on matters pertaining  to Fiqh and Masaail, since our speciality is propagating Islam to  non-Muslims i.e. matters pertaining to Islam and Comparative religion. Hence, we regret to inform you that since your questions are on Fiqh and Masaail, we request you to kindly address these questions to a   specialist on Fiqh and Masaail.”

[Dr. SHUAIB SAYYED  , Manager Research, Islam and   comparative Religion, IRF]

Now, before presenting the text of discussion between me and Dr. Zakir Naik’s IRF,  I would like to ask a few simple questions to of Dr. Zakir Naik and his IRF . If Dr. Zakir Naik and IRFdo not entertain queries on matters pertaining to Fiqh and Masaail” and Dr. Zakir Naik and IRF’s  “speciality is …..Comparative religion” as is written to me on behalf of Dr. Zakir Naik and IRF and as is written by Dr. Naik on his website that “I am a student of comparative religion.” [Source: http://www.peacetv.tv/faq/faq5_26.html ]   ,  then
1.         why does Dr. Zakir Naik freely talks on  issues pertaining to Fiqh and Massail  in his lectures and question answer programmes ?
2.     Why does he not tell everywhere that his speciality is …..Comparative religion”  and  hence he does not entertain queries on matters pertaining to Fiqh and Masaail”?
3.     Why does he condemn Ahle Sunnat wa Zamaat and call their beliefs and deeds “Shirk”or “ Bidah”? Is it Comparative Religion?
4.     Why does he advocate to abandon following four fiqhi school of thoughts ? Is it Comparative Religion?
5.     Why has he himself created a new firqa called “Ahle Sahih Hadeeth” ? Is it Comparative Religion?
This must be stopped as it is weakening the very spirit of Islam. Dr. Zakir Naik is a specialist on comparative religion and we give him due respect for it. But he is not specialist on Islamic Theology as he  himself and his IRF admit and accordingly,  the dire need of Muslim Ummah at this crucial time is that he should limit his dawah activities on comparative religion and avoid answering questions  on Aqidah  (belief ) and Fiqhi issues  as his answers on these issues only trigger disunity  and confusion among Muslim Ummah. We would also like to appeal to the followers  of Dr. Zakir Naik  to accord the prime importance to the Unity of the Ummah  and not  to stick to hero-worship.
Now, I am presenting below the text of my discussion with Dr. Zakir Naik and  his IRF. My earnest appeal to all is to go through the text of our  discussion and spread the message to the near and dear ones so that hero-worship, firqaparasti and extremism are eliminated and misguided brothers and sisters return to the Ahle Sunnat Wa Zamaat.  At the end, in obedience to the advice of Dr. zakir Naik himself, I would like to ask 15 simple questions to him demanding evidence from him on some core issues discussed by him in order to learn truth only and to eradicate misconceptions and confusions among laymen.

 —————————————————————————-
secomd letter           [ My Letter No. 02]

Bismillahir Rahmanir RahimAssalam Alaikum.A few days back , In response to my a volley of questions, you
wrote to me that  you  “do not entertain queries on matters pertaining
to Fiqh and Masaail, since our speciality is propagating Islam to
non-Muslims i.e. matters pertaining to Islam and Comparative
religion”.  I was taken aback by this answer because Dr zakir Naik in
his lectures and question answer programes talks freely on this
issues.

I’ve been a sincere reader of Dr Zakir Naik’s books and Shaykh
Ahmeed Deedat’s books from my tender age. I must say, Shaykh Deedat
always worked within his own limitation whereas Brother Naik always
loves to cross his limitation . Although I’ve been a great admirer of
his debating ability, I think, due to  his  arrogance and audacity he
has  deviated from the path of Ahle Sunnat Wa zamaat.

You said, Fiqh and Massael is not his field. Then why is he attacking
the beliefs of Ahle Sunnat Wa Zamaat? why is he taunting the Fiqhi
differences among the four great School of thoughts?

In every issue against Ahle Sunnat Wa zamaat, he demands evidences
from Quran and Sahih Hadith but he himself presents all his cases only
with the help of logic and reason.’ If’ is his main weapon andwith the
word-game he tries to befool the audiences who is in the darkness of
Islamic theology.

In a reply to a Christian’s question he says, one who obeys Allah is
His son, not by birth but by obedience. Naik calls himself Allah’s son
as he obeys Him. What is it? How can he dare to utter such dangerous
words?    Which verse of Al quran or which Hadith can he preesnt as
evidence in support of his strange views? This is not the only case .
In countless cases, he has uttered poisonous views, harmful for his
own as well as the listners’ Imaan.

He says, he only values Sahih Hadith. The status of sahih hadith
is definitely indisputable. But does the usule hadith say that Hasan
Hadith is rejectable ? Does usule hadith say that all types of  Daeef
Hadithes are rejectable outright? If it is not Hadith rejection then
what is hadith rejection?

My request to Brother Naik is to dwell upon his Aqidah seriously,
make tawba and make necessary correction . It is in the interest of
himself as well as Muslim Ummah.

***** I am very humble person and always have been a well wisher
of Brother Naik. I don’t have the tiniest intention to hurt him or
grieve him.****

Comment: Dr. Zakir Naik & His IRF have not replied so far to the second letter sent by me though more than two years have passed by since then.
Now My Appeal & Questions To Dr. Zakir Naik & His IRF
Brother Zakir Naik ! You call yourself “ Ahle Sahih Hadeeth” and the basic criterion of your Movement is that  only Quran and Sahih Hadeeth  deserve to be obeyed and any Scholar’s view carry no value. You say, “ ….anyone says anything about Deen, he should back it up with the reference  from Quran and Sahih Hadith” (Ref :  Zakir Naik Promoting “SHIRK” and “BIDDAH” in Islam!! http://www.youtube.com/user/TheEmpireofFaith#p/u/6/-fJLoo3pc40)  . You say,” Any person any Scholar say anything ask of proof……….What Zakir Naik says has no value what Allah says has value…….what I say carry no weight…..any Scholar say anything ask for proof.” [ Ref. Zakir Naik on Wasila www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSReUdbb].
Now, in obedience to your advice, I would like to demand reference from Quran and Sahih Hadeeth only from yourself on the following 15 burning issues pertaining to “Fiqh and Massail”. I Hope you will provide reference and proof in support of your standpoint on these issues. I assure you that once you provide reference from Quran and saheeh Hadeeth, I would accept your dawah of Ahle Sahih Hadeeth. But if you fail to back up your answers with reference from Quran and Sahih Hadeeth, I would respectfully appeal you to make tawba, stop answering to issues pertaining to “Fiqh and Massail”and to return to the Ahle Sunnat wa zamaat.

21 Jul zakir_naik

Colombo ,Sri Lanka- Mudaasir Ameen

Zakir Naik faced hard questions on Tawassul or Waseela (intercession ), Following four Imams  in matter of Jurisprudence or Taqleed  and on the Life of Prophets in their graves in Sri Lanka  by young Ahle Sunnah Scholars but could not answer any of the question. He tried to ignore the questions then he was handed over the letter for discussion. To utter surprise of all he could not answer the questions directly posed rather he answered wrongly and rejected Tawassul with out any source.

Person like Zakir Naik who hides their true Wahabi beliefs behind Hindu bashing has been  exposed  by these young Scholars. When he could not answer he said he will reply through Email but when he was reminded same questions were send via mail 4 years back he replied he can’t reply each and every mail as thousands of mails daily comes to his E-Mail adress.Watch the video for deatils-Questions are still opened and challenge is still on.

Terrorism ,Darul Uloom Deoband and its Deobandi ideology

20 Jul

Amir Quddus

It is often  alleged that Deobandi ideology is responsible for spread of terrorism in Pakistan so Darul Uloom Deoband which is mother of this ideology should try to do something to stop extremism and sectarian terrorism in the region. The allegations were once made by Pakistan’s permanent  representative to UN General Assembly Mr.Abdullah  Hussain Haroon.

He said that, I have come up very good suggestion. The clerics of Deoband who yields a great influence over NWFP of Pakistan and Federally Administered Tribal Areas.should come to Pakistan and issue Fatwa against suicide bombings and killing of Muslims in Pakistan as well as in India.

To this allegations Darul Uloom Deoband still has to react but when pressure build up on them they have organised public rallies in the name of fighting terrorism but we still have not witnessed any Deobandi prominent  scholar visiting NWFP,Fata and Tribal areas and issuing Fatwa against terrorist organizations.

It must be remembered that major extremist and terrorist organizations of South Asia follows this ideology from Taliban to Sipah-e-Sahaba and from Lashkar-e-Jhangvi to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan ,all are hardcore  banned but functioning Deobandi terrorist organizations.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deobandi#Movements.also refer to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koXb6pFIJHg

Not even a single declaration or a Fatwa is issued against these Takfiri terrorist organizations which kills citizens on daily basis.

Will they react?

The incoherence of the mesmerized

9 Jan

Hujjut-ul Islam Imam al Ghazali (radi Allahu anh) wrote the Incoherence of the philosophers during a time of great confusion, where Muslims were presented with conflicting versions of Islam. I won’t go into too much detail regarding that period in history, but just want to mention parallels between his time and ours. Imam al Ghazali (radi Allahu anh) articulately, and successfully, defended the articles of faith against a tide of philosophical thinking that was based on incorrect and unscrupulous sets of thinking. Today, we have two camps who are challenging the orthodox traditions.

First are the liberals, who tend to avoid or shun certain religious practices and beliefs that do not fit within their pre-conceptualised secularist mindset. They support the western versions democracy, freedom, equality, etc.

Secondly, we have the Salafis/fundamentalists. They see everything in black and white. To them there is no compromise; no areas of discussion; no grey area. They do not tolerate much that does not fit within their framework of thought.

I want to ask these people a question. What do you make of this video?

If you do not feel sick after watching this, then shame on you. How much are we willing to sacrifice for so called freedom and democracy? What sort of Muslim, forget that; what sort of human being vandalises the grave of a deceased?

Go ahead and have your party. But remember, reality dictates that awareness of injustice is fruitless without sound grounding. Without the real understanding and application of Islam, nothing truly tangible will be achieved.

As a brother on a forum said, “some people ask why Sunnis cannot make peace and truce with Salafis…. here in this simple video is your answer”.

If you want to see real politics, then have a read of the this. We are nowhere near the standard of Sayyiduna Umar bin Abdul Aziz (radi Allahu anh).
