A REPORT BY POLICY DEPARTMENT, EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT European Parliament reveals how Wahabi/Salafi groups are involved in the “support and supply of arms to rebel groups around the world.” The report, released in June 2013, was commissioned by European Parliament’s Directorate General for External Policies. The report warns about the Wahabi/Salafi organisations and claims that “NO COUNTRY IN THE MUSLIM WORLD IS SAFE FROM SALAFI TERRORISM AND DESTRUCTIVE OPERATIONS as they always aim to terrorize their opponents and arouse the admiration of their supporters.”

Deoband rector Mualana Vastanwi resigned amid pressure

Deoband Maulana who was found distributing Idols of Hindu gods Ram and Krishna ina function in Maharashtra and Praised Modi for the developement and Protection of Minorities Rights in Gujrat has to resign yesterday evening amid High Pressure from all quarters of Staff and students as well as from Deobandi Ideology masses.

Now there are also reports from a Leading Urdu daily  Published from New Delhi that he has published an Ad in Samna News Paper through his Committe of a Madarsa praising Hindu Controversial figure Bal Thackrey on his Birthday.

With the students’ union of Darul Uloom in Deoband adamant on his removal as vice-chancellor, Ghulam Mohammad Vastanvi announced on Tuesday that the Majlis-e-Shoora (General Council) will be meeting on February 15 and also that he would be resigning.

Two days ago, Vastanvi had said if the Shoora thought it fit for him to leave, he would quit immediately.

Vastanvi has been in the line of fire for his ‘clean chit’ to Gujarat CM Narendra Modi in the 2002 riots.

Maulvi Saad Jamil Biujnauri, head of Jamaiut-ul-Talba (students’ union) issued an ultimatum on Tuesday that the Shoora be convened within two-three days, adding to Vastanvi’s worries.

Reports in some Urdu newspapers said the vice-chancellor had been officially invited by the Gujarat government to attend the Republic Day parade as a special guest and also the BJP minority cell of Gujarat had plans to felicitate him further antagonized the students’ union.

“We have only one condition — remove the vice-chancellor and that is all,” Saad asserted. “The new vice-chancellor’s thought process does not match the ideology of Deoband,” he said.

Meanwhile, authorities at Darul Uloom revoked the suspension of nine students who were hauled up for unruly behaviour on Sunday. Vice-principal, Maulana Abdul Khaliq Madrasi, said, “The suspensions were just to scare the boys. They were revoked within a couple of hours. Things have have been peaceful here since then. The boys are attending classes. Shoora will certainly be convened. But the vice-chancellor has to decide the date.”

Sources in Deoband say suspensions were revoked after students threatened to intensify agitation demanding Vastanvi’s resignation.

Muslim Leaders protested Gujrat maulvis Comments on Nabi Kareem

Respected leaders of the Muslim community have expressed their views and have demanded stern action on the Gujrat maulvis Comments on prophet of Islam calling him and Instigating others to Call ‘Bhai’ to holy Prophet sallalahoalihiwassalam.

In Ahmedabad,Gujrat a Scholar belonging to Deobandi Tablighi Jamaat Ideology has said derogatory remarks against Allah,Prophet of Islam and Sufi Saints and  in his speeches due to which Sunni organisation of the Country have came against him and are demanding harsh Punishment against him under the 295-A IPC for hurting the religious sentiments of the People and violating the Peace of the Society.

Matter  is fixed for hearing in  High Court on 15th july 2010.
Various Muslim organisation Including Raza Academy, Muslim Students Organization of India (MSO), All India Jamat-e-Raza-e-Mustafa and Darul Qalam Delhi are demanding harsh Punishment for this Kari Ahmedali Hussainali Battiwala who has said Insulting remarks against Allah , Prophet of Islam and against Shrines of great Sufi Saints.

  Advocate Shahnawaz Warsi General Secretary of Muslim Students Organization of India told that this is not a new thing by these deobandi People they are repeating now what their Scholars have written a century back. The founders of Darul Uloom Deoband have said and written many blasphemous statements against Allah,Prophet  of Islam and  Sufi saints and these are just few of them.   No Person of the world will compare his Prophet with himself by saying ”Bhai” but this Kari Ahmed Ali not only compared prophet with him but Incited People to say derogatory words against Prophet.

He allegedly propagated that  Allah Can tell a lie  which is again a blasphemy. The said maulvi also  incited people in his propaganda speeches against Sufi saints calling upon people to “demolish their shrines”. . Mr. Warsi told that we appeal to Muslims of the Country to stay unite against this corrupt belief and demand  stern action against the culprit. He said that Sunni Organisations will start a campaign to counter   this hate Campaign and will expose the dirty Belief of these People. Mr. Warsi said that Muslims can die in the name of Allah and Muhammad S.a.W but will not tolerate this blasphemy. We are Confident that People will not tolerate this and will stay Unite against it.   

  Muhammad Saeed Noori of Raza Academy said that People of whole South Asia respect and love the Shrines of  Sufi Saints where the message of Communal harmony flows but some extremist elements have always tried to spread hatred in the society by their dirty compaign. Now they have not even spared Prophet of Islam.
We demand a total ban on such speeches through out the Country and also demand harsh Punishments for such hate Compaigners from govt of India.  

Reputed Scholar Maulana Yaseen Akhtar Misbahi of Darul Qalam  Delhi said that even a minor Insult of Allah and Prophet Muhammad  is Blasphemy and here the said Kari has committed grave Insult in the court of both which is liable to be punished.This Insulting attitude and writings of Deobandi Ulemas have caused a rift between South Asian Muslims and due to which  Sunni Muslims who are also known as Barelwis have alienated themselves from Deobandis  ,who follow  extremist Saudi Wahabi Ideology.

Row over Maulvi calling prophet ‘bhai’ reaches HC

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court will now decide whether addressing Prophet Mohammed as ‘brother’ (bhai) amounts to hurting religious feelings, as a city-based Maulvi has approached the court after being booked under the charge for using the word ‘bhai’ to refer to the prophet during his sermons.
    The tiff between the Barelwis and Deobandis reached the police station in March this year, when a secretary of Sunni Awami Forum — Usman Qureshi lodged an FIR against a Maulvi — Kari Ahmedali Hussainali Battiwala for outraging sentiments of the Sunni Muslims by allegedly making derogatory remarks on principles of religion and pronouncing blasphemous statements against the Prophet.
    The complainant accused the maulvi of inciting people in his propaganda speeches against Sufi saints calling upon people to “demolish their shrines”.
    However, the main charge levelled against Battiwala was that he used to address the Prophet as ‘brother’ and incited others to call the Prophet as their brother only. The recording of Battiwala’s speeches was also submitted to the police in form of a CD. The maulvi lives in Saraspur area and has studied from Tadkeshwar seminary in south Gujarat, which is believed to be a stronghold of Tabligh Jamaat.
    The Vejalpur police booked Battiwala under Section 295 (A) of IPC for hurting religious feelings by equating the Prophet with himself. The police arrested him, and he was later released on bail. A charge sheet has been filed against him after the probe.
    Battiwala approached the high court to get the FIR against him quashed. In his plea, he contended that the complainant is a journalist and lodged a complaint for publicity only. He claimed that his speeches were delivered a year ago, but there was no objection from the Sunni Awami Forum and the FIR was lodged all of a sudden more than a year later.
    During a hearing in the high court, Justice AS Dave questioned the basis of complainant’s objection and commented that as per Article 25 of the Constitution, everybody has right to propagate his ideology and faith.
    To verify the allegations, the court asked the investigating officer to produce the transcripts of the CD so that the content of Battiwala’s speeches could be known. The judge has kept the hearing on June 29 with oral observation that the court would go to the root of the matter.

Attack on Mosques/Dargahs of Sufi-oriented Sunni Muslims

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Abdullah Haroon made a link in the UN between Darul Uloom Deoband in India and terrorism in Pakistan’s NWFP and FATA areas where the Al-Qaeda and Taliban ideology flourishes. The Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind protested to the MEA, Pak High Commission and UN Secretary-General against Pakistan opening this new front. (Ref: ‘Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind Protests Pak Link’ The Times of India, Kanpur, New Delhi, December 19, 2008) In the aftermath of the Mumbai 26/11 terrorist attack, when India put forth incontrovertible evidence that the terrorists were trained in and came from the Pakistani soil, there was a debate in the UN General Assembly and Abdullah Haroon said:

Some of you may not be aware that how this matter has taken root in a deep way, led entirely by Mullahs in India in Deoband. I am not pointing a finger. I am coming up with a very good suggestion. It is for the clerics in Deoband, who wield great influence in the North West Frontier territories of Pakistan and in FATA, to come to Pakistan, get together and embed, offer a Fatwa in Pakistan against suicide bombing.

Haroon’s was a sincere attempt to draw attention to the need for an ideological offensive against terror. The Government of India, petitioned by the Mullahs, misunderstood and thought it to be a red herring for diverting attention toward India. Facing a lot of criticism in India the Deoband seminary responded by organising conferences and rallies against terrorism and the first such conference was in February 2008. However, the pronouncement in the conference was that ’unjust violence’ is un-Islamic. It stopped far short of naming specific outfits or actions. Why cannot the Deoband clerics go to the Taliban controlled areas of the NWFP in Pakistan and organise such a conference?

Arif Mohammad Khan, who had been a Cabinet Minister in Rajiv Gandhi’s government in the 1980s and resigned on the issue of the regressive stand taken by the government on the infamous Shah Bano legal/judicial case, wrote a scholarly article, ‘Sending a Wrong Message: There’s a Disconnect between the Clergy and the Common Muslims’ in The Times of India, September 30, 2008, New Delhi. He examines the syllabus of the Darul Uloom seminary of Deoband on the question of jihad and forcible conversion to Islam and shows that the syllabus prescribes the sword even when the infidel is not the first aggressor and is at complete variance with the Holy Quran; in fact the syllabus is based on Hedaya, a 12th century text. He mentions that he wrote to the Deoband authorities pointing this out but received no reply. He further says:

This syllabus is not confined to Deoband, the seminary that was established in 1866, but is prescribed in more than 5000 of its affiliates across the country (India) and thousands of madrasahs in Pakistan, run by former students of Deoband. It is curious that for admission into these madrasahs no formal application is needed; instead madrasahs send recruitment teams to very poor and backward areas emphasising that the education, food, lodging and clothing provided by the madrasah are all free.

Further, Arif Mohammad Khan cites a published case study by a Pakistani psychologist, named Sohail Abbas, based on personal interviews of 517 arrested jihadis, which concludes that almost all the jihadis belonged to the Deobandi school of thought.

Development and Education on War Footing

The recruitment strategy of the madrasahs, as mentioned by Arif Mohammad Khan, should be an eye-opener for the political leaderships of Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Boys from very poor half-starved families, not getting any form of education whatsoever, are being targeted by a certain group of madrasahs that seem to be flushed with finance. Therefore the first task before the governments is to provide development and free education to the poor all over the Indian sub-continent. Extremism in any form, be it of the religious or Naxalite variety, flourishes only in dire abominable poverty. The situation in Pakistan’s North West frontier is fast spinning out of control and there is no time to lose. We need development on war footing, and that is why I call it a developmental war. If we lose the developmental war, we are sure to lose the ideological war to the extremists.

Attack on Shrines of Sufi-oriented Sunni Muslims

Muslim Extremism: In the last one month two important mosques have been attacked and bombed by the Taliban in the NWFP of Pakistan. The Rahman Baba mosque in Peshwar was bombed because of its Sufi connection. A famous Sufi Dervish, called Rahman Baba, had established this mosque and the complex includes his mausoleum where thousands of devotees offer obeisance everyday. Even now most of the people of the NWFP are of Sufi-Islam persuasion, but that is sought to be changed at the point of the gun. The Taliban attacked the Jamrood mosque at the Khyber Agency of the NWFP soon after they attacked the aforesaid Rahman Baba mosque. Initially I was puzzled as to the reason for this attack because, according to newspaper reports, that mosque is an ordinary Sunni mosque and contains no mausoleum of a saint. I found a clue in a recent article by Syed Salim Shahzad, Asia Times Online’s Pakistan’s Bureau Chief. Shahzad, in his article, ‘US Strikes at Taliban’s Nerve Centre’ (Thursday, April 2, 2009 7:55 am (PDT)), talks of drone attacks by the NATO in Orakzai area and says:

Orakzai is important for another reason. The Taliban chose it as a base from where to send fighters into Khyber Agency to attack NATO supply convoys. The Taliban don’t have roots in Khyber Agency, where the people are mostly traders and being Sufi are not religiously like-minded with the Taliban, so the militants have been unable to set up bases.

So the mosque was attacked because people of the area are of Sufi-Islam persuasion. In Shahzad’s statement it is also implied that the Taliban are anti-Sufi. We observe that Pakistani spokesmen and Indo-Pak writers are repeatedly drawing attention to an ideological fault-line in Sunni Islam and are pointing fingers at Deoband. It is well known in Pakistani circles that the Taliban and their associates, such as Lashkar-e Tayaba, Sipah-e-Salar, Jaish-e-Mohammad etc., follow the Deobandi interpretation of Sunni Islam and are against veneration of Sufi saints and the Sufi institutions such as Dargahs and Khanekas. Deobandis also hold the Shia and the Ahmadiya to be un-Islamic. True to their ideology the Taliban have been attacking Sufi-oriented Sunni mosques and Shia mosques in the NWFP.

Incidentally, I have come across several Muslim gentlemen, who are good citizens of India in every perceptible way, who candidly admit that they follow the Deobandi interpretation of Islam and hold Sufi practices such as visiting saints’ Dargahs and offering flowers or Chadar there as un-Islmaic. So all Deobandis are not terrorists, but all terrorists seem to be Deobandis. The connection between Deobandi and Wahhabi thoughts are given later in this article. The Al Qaeda, head-quartered in the secret hideouts of the NWFP, is an avowedly Wahhabi organisation led by a Saudi Arabian, Osama bin Laden. Since the Deobandi Taliban is aligned with the Al Qaeda, there must be some ideological affinity between the two.

In 1996 Aruna Asaf Ali (awarded Bharat Ratna posthumously) wrote in her article titled, ‘An Agenda For National Renewal’ (published in Mainstream, New Delhi, September 26, 1996, pp. 13-17):

Fanatical indoctrination imparted over the years in hundreds of schools run by the Jamaat-e-Islami in Kashmir is widely believed to have been a potent factor in the growth of fundamentalist and secessionist forces in that state.

The Jamaat-e-Islami is a well-known political party of Deobandi persuasion, founded in Lahore by Maulana Maudoodi. The Jamaat in Bangladesh or India is a sister organisation of the Pakistani Jamaat and the madrasahs in Kashmir are manned by former students of Deoband. So it is no wonder that the militants of Hizbul Mujahideen, who had been indoctrinated by the Jamaat and been fighting a secessionist war in Kashmir against the Indian Army, occupied and eventually burned down the Dargah of Saint Nuruddin Noorani at Chrar-e-Sharief. Separating Kashmir from India is not their only aim. They also aim to destroy the Sufi-oriented Sunni Islam of Kashmir. (It should be recalled that the Bangladeshi Jamaat sided with the Pakistani forces and took part in the genocide during the liberation struggle in 1971.)

Hindu Extremism: The story of the attack on Sufi Dargahs will remain incomplete unless we mention what happened during the 2002 Gujarat riots. Tens of Dargahs in Ahmedabad alone were destroyed or vandalised. These Dargahs were the symbols of Hindu-Muslim syncretism where the two communities mingled in harmony and where on occasions vegetarian food was prepared by Muslims to be served to Hindu devotees. It is often said that it is only the Hindus who visit (Sufi) Muslim shrines and there is no reciprocity vice-versa. This simply is not true and here are a few examples.

During the recent Gujarat riots, a Hindu mob burned down the tomb of noted classical singer Ustad Faiaz Khan near Ahmedabad. It is well known that Faiaz Khan Sahab used to start all his recitals by saying “Om Ananta Narayana Hari”. He obviously believed in the philosophy of “Ishwara Allah tere naam (Ishwara and Allah are thy two names)”. He was a religious person and known to maintain all the observances of a good Muslim. Among India’s musicians there are many like him. Late Ustad Alauddin Khan, father of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and guru of Pandit Ravi Shankar, often visited a Masjid and a Mandir on the same day. The Shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan used to play in a Banaras temple and has repeatedly talked about his gaining a spiritual experience while performing there. Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam wrote poetry on the goddess Kali. Noted classical singer Pandit Ajay Chakraborty and many other Hindu singers of Bengal sing a song written by the same poet in praise of Prophet Mohammad, “Noor Nabi Mohammad”. The list is endless. The purpose of mentioning all this is to urge both Hindus and Muslims not to abjure the path of syncretism which is so rooted in the culture of this land. Muslim Indians of eminence should work for upholding the Chishtiyya tradition and in particular for restoring the kalashes on the spires of the Chishti dargahs of Ajmar and Fatehpur Sikri; these kalashes had been present for more than six centuries as symbols of Muslim-Hindu syncretism and have been removed between 1975 and 1997, a span of 22 years. As a gesture of friendship the Hindus of Ahmedabad should re-build the tomb of Ustad Faiaz Khan and all vandalised Dargahs.

Sunni Muslims demand ban of Zakir Naik’s talk

On November 8, 2008, members of India’s premier Sunni Muslim organisation, Raza Academy came together to demand a ban on Zahir Naik’s programme ‘Insaniyat Ke Liye Hal’ to be held from November 14-23 at Somaiya grounds.

Maulana Ashraf Raza of the Darul-Uloom Hanfia Rizvia, Colaba also issued a fatwa against Naik. Members alleged that Naik had made derogatory statements about Islam’s prophet. Maulanas from the All India Sunni Tableeq Community were present.
Members complained that on many occasions Naik had urged crowds to pray to Allah alone instead of Prophet Mohammed Paigambar, as he claims the prophet is human.

They also alleged that Naik had praised, Yazid, the murderer of Imam Hussein. Saeed Noori, general secretary of Raza Academy said, “Naik has been very indifferent about Osama Bin Laden. He hasn’t said anything about Osama, even though we see him as a terrorist.”

Ebrahim Tahil, member of the academy said, “He earlier targeted Christians and is now against Sunni Muslims. We have met with RR Patil and KL Prasad urging them to ban the programme.”  He added, “We want to know from where Naik gets his funds?”

What if the ban is not enforced? Noori said, “Maulanas from the Sunni community plan to confront Naik on his knowledge of Islam before the public during the programme.”
DNA tried getting in touch with Naik, but he was unavailable for comment.

Merits of Ramadan

Believers, fasting is ordained for you — as it was ordained for those before you, so that you may practice self-restraint — for a certain number of days; and for those among you who are sick or on a journey, a number of other days, while incumbent upon those who can afford it is expiation by feeding a needy person. To do good willingly is better for one, and to fast is better for you if you did but know. [2:183-184]

Some of the Merits of the Month of Ramadan

The greatest bounty, the highest degree in this lower world of ours, is the faith we owe to the assistance, favor and kindness of Allah. Upon us has been conferred the unique honor of being made His servants and the Community of His dearly beloved, and of being addressed by Him and given a place in the Qur’an.

Now let us count another blessing: Once every year comes the month of Ramadan, of which “the beginning is mercy; the middle, forgiveness; the end, deliverance from the Fire.”

When Ramadan comes, appreciate it! It passes very quickly. Life itself passes very quickly too, as does the time for prayer. Do not say: “Ramadan will come again,” because a Ramadan that has gone will never come again. Next Ramadan is a different Ramadan. Maybe Ramadan will keep coming around until the Resurrection, but this Ramadan may be your last. Do not say: “I missed that prayer but another will come.” Perhaps this prayer will be your last.

Do not say: “Let me retire and draw my pension, then I shall devote myself to worship!” Perhaps you will take your last ride before you draw your pension. They will dress you in a shroud, tying you up with rope or chain; so gird yourself for action right away. Make copious lamentation for your sins. Spend sleepless nights with heart aflame. Keep vigil for your Lord, reciting the Qur’an. Pay homage in His Presence. Ponder your own transitory nature, remembering that He is everlasting… Ponder your own weakness, remembering that He is strong…

What a beautiful thing, to meet with the Lord! How can I get the taste of it across to you? One may speak to the blind about color, to the deaf about music and to the impotent about the joys of sexual intercourse, but can they be made to understand these experiences? Since the blind man cannot see, how can color be described to him in words? How can one show an unseeing eye the many-colored flowers, trees, sun and sky, and fish dancing in the stream? To one who has no smell, how can we describe the scent of the rose, the fragrance of the hyacinth or the jonquil’s perfume? How can we tell the deaf about the chirping of the birds, the gurgling of running waters or the cadeness of the Qur’an and the call to prayer?

If you spend time alone with your Lord, one day the veil will be lifted from your eyes and you will see the colors. You will acquire the sense of smell and detect the fragrance of roses, hyacinths, jonquils and narcissi. You deafness will disappear and you will hear the constant remembrance of Allah. The ear of your heart will open and you will delight in recitation of the Qur’an. Beneath the songs of the nightingales and the gurgling of the waters, you will hear the sound of the affirmation of Divine Unity.

These are the bounties you will be able to attain in this world and one day they will come to an end. As for the bounties you will achieve in the Hereafter, they have no end, but are everlasting…

When Ramadan came, could you hear the Voice calling nightly: “Does no one want Us, does no one love Us? We would love him, too!” This call is given every evening and every night in our lives. This is another divine bounty peculiar to the noble month of Ramadan. See what conversations the Prophet Moses enjoyed. Moses, the converser with Allah, used to go to Mount Sinai. You have your own Mount Sinai at the time of breaking fast, when you can hold a thousand and one conversations. When Moses said: “O my Lord, You speak with me, You address me. Will You not show me the beauty of Your countenance? Let me see Your beauty!” he received the reply: “You shall not see Me.” [7:143]

“Moses, how can you see My beauty when there are seventy-thousand curtains between us? You are incapable of seeing Me. But near the Resurrection I shall give a month as a gift to the Community of My beloved Muhammad. That month shall be called Ramadan. To the Community of Muhammad that fasts during that month, I shall so manifest Myself at the time of breaking fast that, whereas between you and Me there are now seventy-thousand veils, there will be no veil at all between Us and the fasting Community of Muhammad at the time of breaking fast.”

In a Sacred Tradition, the Exalted One says: “The fast is for Me and it is I who reward it.”

The reward of the fast is the vision of Divine Beauty. The emblem of Ramadan is forgiveness. Fasting should be done with sincerity and ardent affection. Our blessed Master said: “If my Community knew what success and salvation reside in Ramadan, they would beg Allah to let them spend their whole lives in that month!”

What do Muslims do during Ramadan?

Muslims usually wake before dawn to take a small meal called “suhoor”. They abstain from eating, drinking and sensual pleasures during the daylight hours of the blessed month. Muslims exert more effort in worship, praying, contemplating, helping others, giving charity, reciting the Quran (the holy book of the Muslims); many Muslims endeavour to complete the Qur’an’s recitation at least once during the month. At sunset, Muslims break their fast, usually with a big meal with family and friends. Many Muslims also attend the mosque at night, to engage in special night prayers called “taraweeh”.

Is Ramadan a Prophet of Islam?
No, Ramadan is not a Prophet of Islam. Ramadan is simply the name of the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calender. It happens to be the month that Allah (the One God) revealed the Qur’an, to Muhammad (the final Prophet of Allah). Islam believes and honours all the Prophets of the past as servants and Messengers of Allah, including Noah (Nooh), Abraham (Ibrahim), Moses (Musa) and Jesus (’Isa) May Allah send His peace upon them all. Muslims believe that Muhammad is the final Messenger of Allah, that the previous Messengers prophesised about. He preached the same message as those before him: “Worship Allah (the one God) alone, you have no god besides Him”.
Do children, sick and old people need to fast?

Fasting is only obligated on Muslims who have reached puberty, are sane and are healthy. So children who have not reached puberty are exempt, but are encouraged to fast some days, or a portion of a day, to train them for when they are obliged to fast. The temporarily sick who have a sickness that may extend a few days, where fasting may serverly affect them or prolong their recovery are not obliged to fast but must make up the days after Ramadan. The chronically ill and elderly, for example those with diabetes, are not obliged to fast, but should feed a needy or poor person for each day they miss.
How did the fast during Ramadan become obligatory for Muslims?

The revelations from God to the Prophet Muhammad that would eventually be compiled as the Quran began during Ramadan in the year 610, but the fast of Ramadan did not become a religious obligation for Muslims until the year 624. The obligation to fast is explained in the second chapter of the Quran: “O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become righteous…The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it;…” (Chapter 2, verses 183 and 185)
What do Muslims believe they gain from fasting?

One of the main benefits of Ramadan are an increased compassion for those in need of the necessities of life, a sense of self-purification and reflection and a renewed focus on spirituality. Muslims also appreciate the feeling of togetherness shared by family and friends throughout the month. Perhaps the greatest practical benefit is the yearly lesson in self-restraint and discipline that can carry forward to other aspects of a Muslim’s life such as work and education.
Why does Ramadan begin on a different day each year?

Because Ramadan is a lunar month, it begins about eleven days earlier each year. Throughout a Muslim’s lifetime, Ramadan will fall both during winter months, when the days are short, and summer months, when the days are long and the fast is more difficult. In this way, the difficulty of the fast is evenly distributed between Muslims living in the northern and southern hemispheres.
What is Lailat ul-Qadr?

Lailat ul-Qadr (”Night of Power”) marks the anniversary of the night on which the Prophet Muhammad first began receiving revelations from God, through the angel Gabriel. An entire chapter in the Quran deals with this night: “We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power: and what will explain to thee what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by God’s permission, on every errand. Peace!…This until the rise of morn.” (Chapter 97) Muslims believe Lailat ul-Qadr is one of the last odd-numbered nights of Ramadan.
Is it difficult to perform the fast in Australia, Canada, USA, and UK?

In many ways, fasting in Australia, Canada, USA, and UK is easier than fasting in some of the African countries where the climate is extremely hot. This year at least, the number of daylight hours will be less than when Ramadan occurs during the summer. In Muslim countries, most people are observing the fast, so there are fewer temptations such as luncheon meetings, daytime celebrations and offers of food from friends. Many Australian Muslims would prefer a daytime work shift during Ramadan so that they may break the fast with their families and attend evening prayers.
How can non-Muslim co-workers and friends help someone who is fasting?

Employers, co-workers and teachers can help by understanding the significance of Ramadan and by showing a willingness to make minor allowances for its physical demands. Special consideration can be given to such things as requests for vacation time, the need for flexible early morning or evening work schedules and lighter homework assignments. It is also very important that Muslim workers and students be given time to attend Eid prayers at the end of Ramadan. Eid is as important to Muslims as Christmas and Yom Kippur are to Christians and Jews. A small token such as a card (there are Eid cards available from Muslim bookstores) or baked goods given to a Muslim co-worker during Eid ul-Fitr would also be greatly appreciated. Hospital workers should be aware that injections and oral medications might break the fast. Patients should be given the opportunity to decide whether or not their condition exempts them from fasting.
Do people normally lose weight during Ramadan?

Some people do lose weight, but others may not. It is recommended that meals eaten during Ramadan be light, but most people can’t resist sampling special sweets and foods associated with Ramadan.

Raza Academy ,the Pride of Sunniyat in India

The Raza Academy was formed in 1978 at 130, Ali Umer Street, Bombay – 3 by Alhaj Mohammed Saeed Noori Sahab along with a few of his colleagues. Mr. Noori has been the President of Raza Academy from 1986 till date. The main purpose to establish the Academy was for printing and publishing books written by Aalahazrat Imam Ahmed Raza and other writers from the Ahlesunnat Jamaat. In view of this Al Hamdo Lillah till date around 30003 books have been published by Raza Academy. It was also established for educational awareness amongst minorities, for raising voice against the atrocities on the minorities and for all minority related matters.

In 1978 after the formation of Raza Academy a Madrassa was started by the name of “Raza Ul Uloom” for the sole purpose giving Islamic Knowledge to children and youngsters as well as old people.

In 1980 the Raza Academy published the “”Kanzul Imaan”” (Urdu translation of the Holy Quran by Aalahazrat Imam Ahmed Raza) and the inauguration was conducted at a fabulous Function by the Hands of Huzoor Burhaane Millat (Khalifa e Aalahazrat) and the function was presided by Hazrat Allama Rehane Millat Alaihir Rehma.

At the occasion of the visit of Barielly Shareef, A copy of “Kanzul Imaan” was presented to Shehzaada E Aalahazrat Huzoor Mufti -e Aazam Allama Mustafa Raza Khan. Upon receiving he blessed and made special prayers for the Academy the result of which is being seen by our eyes at the moment and Insha Allah we shall be witnessing it till Eternity.

In 1981 on the grounds of Mastan Talab a massive programme for the Urs e Chehlum of Huzoor Mufti e Aazam Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu was organized by Raza Academy in which according to media reports around 80,000 (Eighty thousand) people benefited by the Langar Shareef and ate to their fill.

In 1981 the concept of Noori Mehfil was formed and it was started at 47, Ghoghari Mohalla, Bombay 3 which was to be held every Thursday in which the Tosha Mubarak of Huzoor Gause Aazam was also prepared and since then it is being prepared regularly and distributed. Around 1100 Mehfils have been arranged so far. This Mehfil was attended by a lot of Indian as well as Foreign Ulemas namely :

In 1983 Mufti e Aazam Conference and Hind O Pak Naatia Mushaira was held on the 15th & 16th April. At this moment Mufti E Aazam Conference Office was established which was inaugurated by Huzoor Ahsanul Ulema on 5th march 1983 who wrote the following.

The Muslim organisation Raza Academy released pigeons and white balloons from Minara mosque in South Mumbai as a sign of peace.

“I after Isha Namaaz attended the inauguration ceremony of the new office of Raza Academy, Bombay. This Raza Academy has organized a conference by the name of Mufti e Aazam conference which will be held next month, Insha Allah. In this context a book by Istaqamat, Kanpur will be released namely “Mufti e Aazam Number”. I leave now with a prayer from the innermost sections of my heart for the success of the conference. Allah by his grace accept everything.Aameen.”

Also present at that time was Khaleefa e Huzoor Mufti e Aazam Hazrat Maulana Badruddin Sahab

On the 16 April 1983 Hazrat Maulana Rehmani Miyan Sahab read out the above letter in front of the audience which is still saved in Audio cassettes.

In 1983, on the $th march Peer Saiyad Nooruddin Sahab Kashmiri inaugurated the office of Raza Academy at 47, Memonwada Road Bombay – 3.

In 1984 there were communal riots in Bhiwandi.At that time at least 150,000 (One lac fifty thousand rupees worth relief was distributed to the victims.

In 1985 the Sunni Razvi Calendar was started which at present is being printed in lacs and goes all over the world. Every page of this calendar translates a verse of Aalahazrat’s Naatia Deewan “Hadaiqe Bakshish”.

In 1985 a section of Fatwae Razvia which was first published by Hazrat Allama Maulana Amjad Ali Sahab was re-published and the inauguration was done by Muhadisse Kabeer Hazrat Allama Ziyaul Mustafa Sahab

In 1986 Jaanasheene Huzoor Mufti e Aazam was arrested by the Saudi Government on which Raza Academy held protest on an all over India basis. Congregations were held and processions were taken out after which the Saudi Government was forced release Hazrat Mufti Akhtar Raza Khan Sahab after 11 days. Then Alhamdo Lillah the same year Huzoor Rehmate Aalam Salallaho Alaihi Wasallam granted him the grace of visiting Madina Shareef.

In 1986 on the #rd Sept Saudi Day was being celebrated at the Taj Mahal Hotel, Bombay. On this day 6 sunni youths distributed pamphlets against the Saudi Government and were arrested. Those arrested were 1 Janab Mohammed Arif Razvi 2 Janab Mohammed Haroon Razvi 3 Janab Mohammed Imran Razvi 4 Janab Mohammed Naeem Razvi 5 Janab Mohammed Aazam Razvi and 6 Janab Mohammed Afzal Sahab

In 1988 the first fatwa against the ill famed Salman Rushdie was issued by Raza Academy after obtaining it from Jaanasheene Huzoor Mufti e Aazam which was published in the Daily Hindustan on the 11 November 88 and on 12th November in Inquilab and Urdu Times

In 1988 the Raza Academy announced awards for best decoration in the Eid Miladun Nabi festival. The first prize for best decoration was Rasoole Arabi Award, a Shield, certificate and Rs 5000/- cash, the second award was Siddique Akbar Award a Shield, certificate with Rs 2000/- cash and the 3rd Award was Farooque Aazam Award a Shield, certificate and Rs 1100/ – cash

In 1988 Raza Academy had completed 10 years and a programme was organized .At this occasion special editions on Aalahazrat Imam e Ahlesunnat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Fazile Barielvi were published by Inquilab Daily, Urdu Times, Hindustan, Akhbaare Aalam Weekly and Hujoom Delhi

In 1989 the “Kanzul Imaan” was published in English translation which was inaugurated by the Founder of Sunni Razvi International and Khaleefa e Huzoor Mufti e Aazam Hazrat Allama Maulana Mohammed Ibrahim Khushtar Sahab (Manchester).

In 1990 America Attacked Iraq and the Academy announced to send one lakh volunteers for the safety for Harmain Shareefain, Madina Munawwara, Shrine of Hazrat Imam Husain, Saiyadina Imam Hasan, Saiyadina Huzoor Gause Aazam, Saiyadina Imaam e Aazam and other sacred places.

In 1990 the Raza Academy’s office was shifted to 26 Kambekar Street, Rehmat Manzil Ground Floor, Bombay 9 and is currently at the same place. It was inaugurated by Alhaj Mohammed Saeed Noori Sahab.

In 1991 the Bukhari Shareef (Complete) was published and was inaugurated by Hazrat Allama Akhtar Raza Khan Sahab and was distributed free of cost to different Madrassa and libraries.

In 1992 the 100 year celebration of Huzoor Mufti e Aazam was organized in which Ulemas and Scholars from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Egypt, London, Manchester, America, Africa and other countries participated. The details will be presented some other time.

In 1992 on the 2nd Feb India established diplomatic ties with Israel for which the Raza Academy held a powerful demonstration at Flora Fountain and submitted a Memorandum to the then Prime Minister Mr. P.V.Narsimha Rao and Chief Minister Mr. Sudhakar Rao Naik to severe all ties with them.

In 1992 on the 6th of December the Babri Masjid was demolished by Hindu Fundamentalists which was followed by Communal riots all over India. The Raza Academy played an important role in maintaining peace and harmony and also in relief works. Just a day before this that is the 5th of Dec the Academy had sent a press release appealing to maintain peace and harmony in the city which was published on the 6th Dec in Inquilab and other newspapers.

In 1993 on the 6th Dec (the first anniversary of Babri Masjid Demolition) the Raza Academy announced that Azaan would be called out at 3.45 pm (the time of demolition) in all areas and this is still being followed all over India.

In 1994 the Fatawa e Razvia’s complete 12 volumes were published on the occasion of the uth Annual Urs of Aalahazrat and the inauguration was done in Barielly Shareef by the hands of Hazrat Allama Akhtar Raza Sahab.On the same day the second volume of Jaddul Mumtar was also inaugurated by Muhaddise Kabeer Allama Ziyaul Mustafa Sahab

In 1995 the copies of “Kanzul Imaan” were distributed to the Haji’s returning from Hajj as a gift at the Sahar International Airport Bombay

In 1995 on the 5th of Dec by the efforts of Hazrat Allama Tauseef Raza Khan a Postal Stamp was published in memory of Aalahazrat Imam Ahmed Raza. Before this The Raza Academy had demanded from the Indian Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi and Ex- Prime Minister Mr. V.P Singh for the same.

In 1995 Juloose Mearaj un Nabi was started which commenced from Minara Masjid and ended at Mastan Talab Bombay 8.

In June 1996 3 volumes of Fatawa e Razavia with Urdu translation were published and inaugurated by the hands of Hazrat Allama Mufti Akhtar Raza Khan

In 1996 on the th of October a newspaper Saamna carried insulting remarks against the Holy Prophet on which Raza Academy held nationwide demonstrations. Then the paper apologized for the same. The Raza Academy tried to prosecute its Editor Mr. Bal Thackeray but Since the Central Government did not grant permission he could not be prosecuted.

In 1996 communal elements tried to stop Qurbani Animals on which a delegation met the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Manohar Joshi and thwarted their efforts.

In 1996 with the help of Janab Farooque Saudagar Sahab the Raza Academy distributed Audio cassettes of Panjsoora e Razvia to the Haji’s

In 1997 the third day of Qurbani falled on the Mahavir Jayanti day and hence the Jain community opposed the Slaughtering of Animals on that day. The Raza Academy met Mr. Manohar Joshi (The then Chief Minister of Maharashtra) and apprised him of the situation that Muslims cannot forgoe their religious commitments. The Chief Minister called a meeting of the police commissioner and Municipal commissioner and decided to hold Qurbani in the Slaughter houses and other places on that day though officially the slaughter house was closed.

The listing of the services by Raza Academy is not for propaganda or for receiving applause from you but it is to show a way to those who have the light of Maslake Aalahazrat burning in their hearts and who are always restless to be of some work for the cause of Islam and Sunniyat.
