New Delhi- 19 October
The Sunni Youth Society, a prominent youth group of Sunni Barelwi Community, held its National Islamic Convention 2009 in New Delhi today with eminent personalities from the dominating section of the Muslim community attending and addressing the daylong program.
The theme of the convention was Message of Humanity. The theme was selected “not only to strengthen the roots of communal harmony in the country but also to teach our youth about the secular and rich traditions of our country,” said Sunni Youth Society. “The message of every religion is same and each religion tells to live with peace and harmony. This message which is very much relevant in this scenario where everyone is trying to prove his religion as best one, SYS (Sunni Youth Society) is rising with a slogan to spread the message of humanity,” the group said.
The program presided over by Syed Muhammad Ashraf Miyan Jilani, president, Spiritual Foundation of India, was addressed by various renowned spiritual personalities including Sheikh Aboobacker Ahmed, chief patron of Sunni Youth Society and General Secretary, Jamiat Ulema (Kerala), Syed Shah Shameemuddin Ahmed Munami, Sajjad Nasheen of Khanqah Munamiah (Patna) and Dr Abdul Haleem Azhari, national president, Muslim Students Organization.
General Secretary of All India Sunni Jamiatul Ulema and Vice Chancellor of calicut based Islamic University Sunni Markaz, Sheikh Aboobacker Ahmed said that Muslims are in good condition in India but what has now become disturbing for some years is that the community is being blamed for terror attacks in the country.
Hussain Ashraf Jilani (England) said that Islam has no affiliation with terrorism and extremism. Yet Islam is blamed for terrorism. So now it’s our responsibility to track down the terrorists to clean the image of the religion.
Sunni Leader Sheikh Aboobacker said lack of a consensus leadership is the biggest problem of the community. On the main reason for lack of unity in the Muslim society, the sheikh said there is no difference in the basics. There are thousands of madrasas being run in the country by Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat.
When Sheikh Aboobacker on his stand on the proposed Central Madrasa Board, said: If the government wants to help madrasas financially and see modern subjects like English and computer being taught at madrasas and has no intention to interfere in their religious syllabus, we can support the proposal. Otherwise, there is no way to support it.

New Delhi: Shariat is above tariqat and tasawwuf, and there is no Sufism without following Shariat, said Syed Shah Muhammad Ameen Mian, head of Qadri Barkati order and Sajjada Nasheen of Barehra Sharif (Etah district in UP). He was delivering presidential address at the Noori Tasawwuf Conference held at India Islamic Cultural Centre in New Delhi today.
The conference was organized by Mumbai’s Raza Academy, a representative body of majority of traditional Sunni Muslims adhering to Sufism, on the occasion of 175th birth anniversary of Hazrat Shah Abul Hasan Ahmed Noori known as Hazrat Noori Miyan of Barehra Sharif.

Syed Shah Muhammad Ameen, who is also professor of Urdu at Aligarh Muslim University, condemned fake Sufism and Sufis who just wear a particular dress and think themselves as Sufi. He said there are many Sufis around who don’t follow the traditions of Prophet and yet claim to be Sufi.
He also criticized the critics of Sufism who say the path was invented much after the period of the Prophet and Sahaba. Syed Shah Muhammad Ameen said: We got lessons of Sufism from the life of the Prophet. Suffa in the premises of Masjid-e-Nabwi was the first university of Sufism of which the Prophet himself was teacher, administrator and vice-chancellor.

Muhammad Saeed Noori, chief organizer of the conference and president of Raza Academy, earlier elaborating the objective of the conference said that Sufism is the central theme of the conference in which the message of communal harmony, love and brotherhood will be taught to develop a society based on mutual trust and cooperation.
“The onslaught of religious hatred is leading to an uprecedented trend of people breeding prejudice, lack of respect and triggering wars of mutual hatred. Under these circumstances the Sufi message of respect for all creation, tolerence and love articulated in our country assumes a real contemporary and global relevance. The Sufis believe that without the spark of love no true society can be developed and above all it is love that teaches higher values, cures alienation of humans from themselves, their fellow beings and all that exists in nature,” said Saeed Noori.

At the conference Mufti Abdul Mannan, former Shaikhul Hadees at Jamia Ashrafia, Mubarakpur, Azamgarh and Ghulam Yahya Anjum, professor of sufism atHamdard University were conferred with Noori Award by Raza Academy.

Several ulema and scholars attended the conference from around the country.
